From Culinary Arts to Textile Artistry
Your cultural adventure begins in the kitchen, with guidance from an experienced Peruvian chef. The only thing better than this hands-on, interactive cooking lesson will be the spectacular lunch you enjoy at the end. The chef will share legendary recipes and helpful tips for seasoning to perfection, plus suggestions for recreating these iconic dishes in your own kitchen.
While the choices may vary based on the season and availability of the freshest ingredients, here’s an example of the menu items created in this class. The culinary journey begins by cooking a hearty soup made with Peru’s legendary quinoa, corn, or wheat. The main dish could include traditional favorites such as locro de zapallo (pumpkin stew), tender braised meats, mashed potatoes, or stuffed rocoto pepper. To complement these authentic flavors, you’ll enjoy a cup of chicha morada—a refreshing beverage and famous Andean specialty created with native purple corn, sweet fruit, and delicate spices.
Following your lunch, you’ll have an opportunity to interact with our fluffy, friendly llamas and alpacas against the backdrop of the extraordinary natural scenery. The jaw-dropping photos you capture here will be the ones you share, post, and frame. Want to meet one of our Llama of the Month celebrities? We can make it happen!
The rest of your afternoon will be spent immersing yourself in the experience of creating the world-famous Peruvian textiles. Andean Colors is—without question—the best place to do that. We’re known for our artisanal expertise and unquestionable quality. In fact, our textiles are the centerpiece of everything we do at Andean Colors.
With this package, you won’t simply be a spectator in the textile-making process. You will be an active participant in every stage: examining the texture of the wool; cleaning the fibers; and dyeing the wool using natural pigments extracted from plants, insects, and minerals. The talented artisans will teach you a backstrap weaving technique, allowing you to create your own bracelet in vibrant colors. This cherished keepsake will always remind you of your time in Peru.
You’ll also have an opportunity to shop for handmade textiles and fine leather goods in our expansive boutique. This is the perfect spot to purchase colorful souvenirs, unique treasures, and quality products that will surely be handed down for generations.
When you select this package or shop at our boutique, you’ll be contributing to a social project that is a central part of Andean Colors’ mission. We are dedicated to supporting single mothers in our region who have faced difficult circumstances. By working with us to help preserve Peru’s ancestral traditions and textile artistry, these brave women have discovered a path to independence for themselves and their children.
By choosing Andean Colors, you are making a difference in their lives.
